Updates from your Proud Principal…

I am amazed at how quickly February passed us by! I am very proud of the students for all their hard work. We have recently taken the MAP assessment and we had so many students surpass their Fall MAP score. This is evidence of the dedication that they have for learning and the wonderful instruction that is happening each day at Essex Elementary.

Our virtue for Quarter 3 is Responsibility. Please talk with your child at home about the importance of showing Responsibility. Students that demonstrate this virtue earn Dojo points and receive a special award at the Proud Panda Assembly.     In March, our 5th grade students will participate in MISA testing. MISA is the Maryland Integrated Science Assessment. The test will assess the 5th graders knowledge of topics covered in grades 3-5. The test is given over 2 days with 2 sessions tested on each day. Specific dates and times will be provided to the 5th grade parents as we get closer to the dates.

Spring is almost here and so is Spring Break. Spring break begins on April 3rd when we dismiss at 12:30. April 3rd is also the last day of the 3rd quarter. We will return to school on April 14th, unless we have an additional snow day. If anything changes with the schedule, I will send out the information.

We are continuing to utilize Class Dojo as our school-wide behavior system. It is a great way to receive notices on your child’s behavior, communicate with the teacher, and receive updates on events that are happening at school. We currently have 609 parents that are signed up for Dojo!! That’s amazing!  If you have not already signed up, please contact your child’s teacher. I will be sharing important information through Class Dojo all year!

Our theme for the school year is SWAG, Students with Academic Goals. Your children made a goal for the month of December. Please ask your child if they reached their goal. They will receive a SWAG prize from me each time they reach their goal!

Again, I want to thank our staff, students, and families for their engagement and support of everything that we do here at Essex Elementary. We definitely have SWAG!
