Message from Nurse Gorman

Dear Essex Families, 

I am writing to ask for your help in ensuring the safest environment for all our students. This pandemic has certainly made life complicated and adding to all our stressors. With that said, can you please help with the following: 

1. If your child is absent from school, PLEASE contact the teacher, principal, front office, or school nurse regarding the nature and the duration of the absence. This can be a phone call, email, Schoology message, or a Class Dojo message.  
2. If your child missing 3 or more consecutive days due to illness, they must have a doctor's note for the absences to be excused. Also, if your child is experiencing COVID-like symptoms (may include cough, fever, headache, difficulty breathing, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea) PLEASE consult with your family physician or other healthcare provider and don’t send your child to school.  
3. Please do not send your child to school if they have been identified as a COVID-19 close contact in school, on the bus, in daycare, or other afterschool activities. Quarantine applies to all settings.  
4. If your child has a condition where medication is needed, can you please notify the school nurse of the condition, provide the medication to the school nurse in the bottle/box with a label AND have the doctor write the order allowing the nurse to administer the prescribed medication in school. Medication is not allowed to be carried in the student’s backpack unless an order is signed by a physician that it is okay to self-administer.
